In Manhattan’s Upper East neighborhood, The 80th Street Residence has offered memory care services to individuals with dementia for over 20 years. Opened in 1999, this community is New York City’s first assisted living community devoted to memory care. The staff recognizes that there are numerous dementia types, so they dedicate their time to understanding them to better personalize care for residents.

Situated by the East River, The 80th Street Residence’s residents can explore riverside parks, dine at a variety of restaurants, grab grocery and daily items from big-box stores, and conveniently access medical care. Residents also engage in the community's diverse programming, including lifelong learning courses, culinary classes, music therapy, fitness classes, and off-site trips to museums and theaters.

Over time, the community's design and decor have changed, but the core element of care remains the same. The 80th Street Residence embraces a household model which aims to replicate intimate neighborhoods to minimize overstimulation and offer a sense of home. Eight to ten residents live on each floor with a shared kitchen, dining room, and living room to make it feel truly like a home.

Caregivers are available around the clock and they spend their time offering assistance with activities of daily living.
